Windows Server 2012: Quality of Service

Holla,

Frenz, as shared Windows Server 2012 is packed with full of goodness. It’s no longer just a Server Operating System but it’s a Cloud Operating System! Why cloud?

In my coming blogs tagged with Windows Server 2012, you will see native technology from WS2012 really helps you in a Cloud Management Perspective.

Here I would like to share a video on Quality of Service (QoS). What is QoS? In short it gives you the ability to enforce Bandwidth Caps (Maximum Bandwidth) as well as Bandwidth Floors (Minimum Bandwidth).

Minimum Bandwidth will help Service Providers to ensure that even in a congested situation, their SLA with their customers will still be fulfilled!

See here, QoS in Action!

Hyper-V 2012 Dynamic Memory with Hot-Add RAM

Holla,

I’ve found something I capture a long time ago with Windows Server 2012RC with regards to Hot-Adding RAM or vRAM

Tools:

  1. Hyper-V Host: Microsoft Windows Server 2012rc Datacenter Ed
  2. Virtual Machine: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Ed
  3. Memory Test: HCI Design MemTest 4.0

image
VM running only on 512Mb

image
Assigned Memory & Memory Demand is 512Mb or lesser

image
Settings for VM confirms it’s 512Mb

image
Increase Memory to 1024Mb

image
Using MemTest, we’re able to push memory up to 1024Mb

image
Changes Maximum RAM to 2048Mb with 20% Memory Buffers

image
Using MemTest, we’re able to push VM to 2048Mb while the Memory Demand on the Hyper-V Manager shows 2211Mb (10% Memory Buffer)
